There are many ways to add cannabidiol to your foods and drinks these days. Let’s take a deep dive into how to create our favorite infused mayonnaise recipe! First, you must start by preparing the CBD to be mixed into food. If you are working with a CBD tincture, distillate, or oil, you can skip these steps as your CBD product is ready to be cooked.
There are two methods of making cannabidiol (CBD) infused mayonnaise. You can measure and use a clinical-grade CBD tincture (like DocCBD CALM) and add it to your ingredients. Or you can purchase hemp flower (it is available in many dispensaries). If you are choosing to use hemp flower, however, you will need to decarboxylate the bud before using it to make your homemade mayonnaise.
How to Decarboxylate Your Hemp Flower
If you are choosing to work with a whole flower CBD, you will need to decarboxylate your flower before you can effectively cook with it. What that means is that you will lightly heat and toast your hemp flower to activate the cannabinoids inside it.
Steps for decarboxylation:
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Step 2: Break down your whole flower CBD into small bits. A grinder may make this easier, but it is not essential.
- Step 3: Lay parchment paper onto a baking sheet.
- Step 4: Place your broken-down CBD flower onto your baking sheet.
- Step 5: Bake for roughly 35 to 40 minutes. It is important to know that CBD takes longer than THC to decarboxylate.
Once your flower has been decarboxylated, it must be strained and turned into a cookable oil. Grab a strainer, a heatproof bowl, a saucepot, and your favorite oil. We suggest olive oil for this recipe. You will need to make a makeshift double boiler. But you can also use hemp seed oil, sunflower seed, avocado, or canola oil to make a tasty mayo!
Mix and Blend Your CBD Mayonnaise Ingredients
Mix your broken-down CBD flower and olive oil to the top of the boiler. Add water to the bottom of your boiler and let it simmer for at least an hour. Some people choose to simmer their CBD oil for up to 6 hours. Stir your mixture of CBD flower and oil regularly. After your CBD oil has simmered for at least one hour, stir, strain, and cool it. It is now ready to be cooked!
For ingredients, you will need:
- 1 cup of mayonnaise.
- ½ cup of sriracha.
- 2 tbsp of your homemade CBD oil.
- A pinch of salt and pepper.
- Lime juice to taste.
In a small bowl, mix all ingredients. You can choose to whisk or blend these ingredients. You can then add your CBD-infused mayo to anything you’d like! We suggest dipping french fries, adding some to a burger, or drizzling them over vegetables. Whatever you choose to eat with it, we hope you enjoy it. Using Cannabidiol in Recipes to Make Your Own Edibles
It is important to remember that this is an infused meal. While it may be delicious, it is possible to consume too much CBD. Your body needs time to digest the cannabidiol in your system, so it can take 30 minutes to an hour to begin to feel the effects. Inhaling medical cannabis products offer immediate onset to aid in relief – oral consumption is a different story!
Food that is infused with medical cannabis products is often referred to as edibles. Edibles are a popular way to receive your daily dose of medicine as they are safe and tasty. Many physicians recommend consuming your medical cannabis orally instead of smoking or vaping it. Smoking or vaping your CBD or THC can lead to the inhalation of carcinogens. So experimenting with different ways of consuming cannabidiol and other cannabinoids (other than smokable varieties) can be a good healthy choice.
